upto date again . . . yay !
long day at work, with much excitement of having some time with lilja.
spoken witth sara a bit about it today on the phone, and the plan was for her to go up and help lillian with the worm checking, the to give lilja a little food so when i got there i could have a little time with her before the feed.
however much to my dissapointment, when i got to the yard i found sara bringing in lilja with the post knocker in the other had and a sour look. turns out that lilja had been presumably cornered and forced though the gate which seperates the main field and the feeding area.
she had a small mark on her chest from where she had pushed through the fence. anyways that was almost my plans destroyed, until sara bashed in the final nails, saying about how bad her last hour at th yard had been, so i was forced to abondon my plans to try and take aload off sara.
i did manage however to have a little scratching session with lilja before putting hay out, it was nice to see vinur get down and have a roll, turned out that he and sara had been down to the lake today for a swim.
after the food had been put out, lillian appeared with her horse skeggi, who she had just put a sweetitch rug on, and lilja found this to be very interesting and followed him trying to sniff it and presumably later try to eat it.
i gave her a customary hug and kiss good bye, and wondering now when next ill see her.

bugger . . . let the blog slip, and only after one day the future doesnt look bright.
anyways went up to lilja yesturday after finishing off emptying the house of junk, sara took a look at her mane and doesnt think that it is sweet itch my im still expecting the worse, i suppose time will tell if it is sweetitch or a horse taking advantage of trees in the malting season.
we took lilja for a walk out today, and she far far more confident than last time. we covered the same root but stopped for a longer graze. on the way back lilja and i lead the way a little and she is much improved with walking with me.
we cam in for a short while where i gave her some food and brushed through her tail, followed by a little brush through her mane and the application of some aloevera gel that worked wonders on the horse who i had last year (and who had a minor case of sweet-itch)
i then picked up all of her feets and then we returned to the field for evening hay and where i gave her some scratches before wishing her a good night.

yay im finally upto date with the blog, hopefully no more or rather very littlöe back dating in future.
arrived just before feeding time, we are moving house today so i wanted to get there early to see her and get our horsebox inorder to move.
i helped lillians daughter and grand daughter to put out the food, i found it very touching as natalie was very interested in lilja and was giving her a little attention. they had already put out some food in the feeding area and lilja was the only horse to have access.
we put out all the food, however lilja wasnt very interested in it. i left her for a while hoping that she swould be more inclinded to eat without a distraction and went to inspect the fencing in the summer field ... oh dear looks like ive got at least a days work fixing it, and making it far more standardised and maybe alittle more young horse proof.
i returned to the field with a food bucket and a brush. i collected lija and whilst she was eating i gave her a brush. she was very keen on beioong scratches today, i took a hair removal tool and started trying to remove some of the winter coat. after i had done most of her body i started on her neck, and when i lifter her main my heart stopped, i found that she has rubbed off quiet alot of hair, up towards her main, i dont want her to be a sweet itch horse, it will be horrible for her to be itchy and need a rug and lotions and potions to sooth everything.
i returned her to the field almost in tears and fed vinur. when i returned him to the field i spent a little time there and am now paranoidaly upset about the possibility of sweetich on my little baby,
now much later in the day, sara thinks that i am over reacting, and its most likely nothing, or maybe that she is just taking advantage of a field with trees - something that she previously hasnot had, but im still worried. i hope tomorrow to take proper look and maybe to go through her mane and maybe apply some aloe vera gel, and lots of fly spray to keep those nastey things away. i really am keen to get sara up to the yard to take alook at it herself, but im fearing the worst.

much better after a long sleep, i had planned to be at the yard for nap time, however when i got there i had just missed it, so i wasnt very happy. however i did enter the field to find vinur koncked out, but he soon jumped up and wanted to trade kisses for treats.
i didnt do anything today other than undemanding time and a few scratches.
was a little concerened by all the flies that are around especially the ones drinking from her eyes so will have to sort out a flie mask of sorts.

right thats it, my working week is over now over. im really tired, as i started at midnight and after a very hard day arrived at the yard at 1530.
i was very keen to see my little girl. as usual when i walked in the field she perked and and wandered over, we had a little time close to oneanother, then after some scratches, i took lilja into the paddock again, we played again a little with porcupine and re-enforcing the walking next to me by using the lead rope as a tail.
i remember leaving lilja that eveing very tired and need much sleep.

well my day has been rather messed up, as im currently starting at mightnight for a few days, i try to get a few hours sleep see the horses, the go home to sleep a little more.
anyways i arrive at the yard to find lilja standing very close to drotning, i spent a little undemanding time with her. i then stole lillian sauna to have a little sleep in, i later returned feeling much refreshed, and decided to take lilja down to the paddock to have a little play. i didnt do too much with her, only a little porcupine game, we also played with the pilates ball a little which was very much appriciated by lija, it seams that i have little footballer.
i fed her in the paddock and then returned her to the field for the evening hay, however on the walk back i swung the spare end of the lead rope to encourage lilja not to just push through me and follow me, and it seamed to do the trick.

went to the field this morning and found several horses to be in the reeding area, i entered with a bucket - my planing being to take some water up to my lillte lija, and then she appeared from around the corner, i was quite shocked and didnt expect the herd to be quite so tollerant of this. i still offered her some water but she was un-interested and wanted to have a foot bath instead.
the feed went well, and i would have stayed for nap tip however we had things to do and so for the first time i had to leave lilja at the yard. we returned later in the afternoon and we took vinur and lilja out for a litlle walk around the nearest lake, she was rather nervous about leaving the field, bnut we had vinur as a lead and lilja and i just followed. we stopped a few time for a little grass, as she had been only lead from a stable to a field before she was rather pushy and wasnt sure how to follow my lead, so having vinur to follow helped immensely. we did decide to turn around half way as there was a local farm chopping wood with a tractor, and we decided that a first time around the lake was maybe enough for lilja little mind.
the evening feed went well with no problems, she is really being accepted alot more into the herd. freya and lilja were scratching oneanother, however the one thing that does supprise me, is idja the other young extroverted horse is not atall nice to her, i would have thought that she would have been very keen to get a friend to play with.

Had a nice night, however felt very bad leaving Lilja all alone with the herd, however i made Vinur promise to look after her during the night.
It did seam to go alright though, i took some water to her, she took a little but otherwise was not too thirsty, so she hopefully has been drinking over the night.
Breakfast went well, we spread some hay out, and after Lilja settled in with a pile i decided to go and guard it / spend some undemanding time with her. After a short while she started to move her back legs under her, i was fearing colic what with a move and a new home with new food, but she instead decided to lay down beside me. I didnt think too much of this and just enjoyed her company, giving her a few scratches from time to time, but mostly just left my hand on her shoulder. Sara (my fiancee) came and saw us, and although she seamed happy about it there was something else there, (i later discovered that she was rather jelous as in the eight years of having her horse Vinur she has never been able to get close to him, whilst hes laying down, so for Lilja to laydown in front of me was a little too much for her). Lilja was very tired as her head shoock from time to time and she had her eyes closed, as well as for a short time she laid her head down on my legs.
I did find a really itchy place but i fear that i didnt scratch it right as lilja was force to get up and find a tree to scratch it properly, but then she returned and laid down beside me again and finished her nap. vinur later came over to steal some of the hay, so it was the three of us for a while until sara came and joined us.
Later in the afternoon the farrier came to look at feet, unfortunatley he is a regular farrier and not who.i want to use but hes not pregnant. the farrier session went well, lilja has been done previously by the breeder so i was keen to get a professional eye cast over her feet. they didnt seam too bad just a little worn down in the front as she does scrape the floor often. but for saying the farrier did have a lot of strong energy and.could have (or rather should have been softer and slower) she once again took everything in her stride and was very happy with things.

herd introduction
2013 May 10
After her fist night in it was now time to introduce Lilja to the herd of five horses.
She seamed to have a relativly good night in, the stable was a mess but its to be expected with a left brain extrovert. the boredom breaker carrot ball was certainly a highlight as all but a few pieced had been removed, the last few i repositioned and an impatient Lilja was soon allowed to finish the pieces.
We had decided to give the horses a small breakfast, then after most had been eaten i followed Drottning out with Lilja at my side. We drove the horsrs out of the feeding ares and after showing Lilja the water let her go. She had a brief introduction with Vinur before deciding to explore the field, with Vinur, Freya and Idja following closely behind and for a short time it continued like this with odd sniffs and squels.
Things seamed pretty settled, Vinur was being rather nice to her (i was expecting him to be sour to her like he has been in the past with other low ranking horses) so i was supprised to see him being the nicest of the herd, and where needed he would step in to break up little fights, or encourage Lilja to move out the way.
It was around this time that we gave the horses the rest of their food
The rest of the day was fairly quiet, there were a few discussions here and there but no major quarrols. I went many times to meet with Lilja often only for ten or twenty minutes. As it was quite warm day I decided to take a bucket of water out a few times, which was always greaty appriciated, confirming my thought that the water was being guarded.
The evening food was spread out over the field and after a discussion with lillian we decided to leave lilja out for the night.

First day of the rest of our lives together
Thursday 09 May 2013
Went to collect little lilja today. was rather nervous what with the the upcomming six hour drive.
Not ate so well for the past day or so with everything leading upto this day and breakfast was a real struggle.
Anyways to the collection, she was quite happy laying down besides her half sister in the field, i did feel rather sad knowing that this was the last time that these two would be together again, but lilja didnt seam to care at all when she was lead out the field by lasse ( a very highly reccomended person and breeder who hopefully i can secure his thought that ill be a good caretaker to this special little horse ), as i prepared my fantastic little Renault / Dodge 50, he took her in to give her "a little brush as he would not let her leav e dirty", i know that it was more of a goodbye.
when he was ready with her we stood by the horsebox, noit knowing how her two previous travelling experiences had been we took some time to let her feel a little more confident around it. i took down Vinurs ( her new older adopted brother) travelling boots and after a little smell rubbed her with them and slowly started putting them on giving plenty of time in between each. she wasnt at all bothered by them and would newer have been allowed into monty pythons ministry of silly walks.
the loading went very well, a little leading and a bucket of oats and she was soon in the box, and with it closed we said our goodbyes and started on the near 500km trip. she travelled very well, she quickly learnt to keep her legs apart to maintain stability, however she did paw the floor of the box quite often, and let out a few neighs here and there. sara must have got a little annoyed at me as i continously asked her how lilja was doing.
we stopped juat after half way for a short break and she seamed very happy, taking everything in her stride. we adjusted her front boots as she hasnt yet grown into them. we also moved her hay net as she seamed happier to stand with her bum against the back wall and the net was previously hangin in froint of the barrier.
the rest of the journey went very well towards the end we were all very tired and this was showing on lilja, as she pawed a little more. she calmly left the horse box in hindås, and we walked upto the school as i wanted to let her have a little freeish choice time her her self to move a little. with the halter removed she slowly wandered off to explore this new place she had a little trot and explored all four corners along with all the barrels and assioated toys that were generally strewn around the school. when lillian arrived we added the pilates ball which she had a small play with. and i gave her a few scratches.
after a short while she came in and met the herds lead horse drotning - who want not impressed, but after reciveing the carrot ball, some hay and some food soon settled in for the night.
